Online film competitions where the audience picks the winner
Most online audience awards are popularity contests: whoever shares the voting link hardest wins. Before you enter one, check four things: that entry is free when the audience decides, that votes require watching the films, that the rules and any prize are published before entries open, and that you keep your rights. Plink runs head-to-head film competitions built on those rules: entry is free whenever the audience decides, and a vote only counts from someone who has watched both films in the matchup.
How a Plink competition works
- EnterUpload your film to your channel and enter it. Free whenever the audience decides the result.
- Get drawnEntries are seeded into a single-elimination bracket. Seeding is fixed before the first round.
- Watch both, then voteA vote counts only from an account that has watched both films: 20% of each film’s running time, never more than three minutes and never less than thirty seconds. Plink’s servers count the time, so it cannot be faked from a browser.
- AdvanceMore valid votes wins the matchup. Rounds run for a whole window, then the next opens, until one film is champion.
Red flags in any film competition
Paying to enter something decided by public vote. Prizes that grow with the number of entries. Votes that anyone can cast without watching. Rules you cannot read before you enter. Terms that take rights to your film. Plink publishes plain-English rules for every competition, and each one has its own Official Rules.
Questions people ask
Are Plink competitions free to enter?
Any competition decided by audience vote is free to enter. Judged competitions run by festivals on Plink may charge an entry fee, like any festival, and say so on their page.
Can I vote for my own film?
No. You cannot vote in a matchup your own film is in, and one account gets one vote per matchup.
What stops people from rigging the vote?
Votes only count after watching both films, and votes from bots, duplicate accounts or bought votes are void. Voting is audited every round.
